Infrared emission diode (IR LED) selection guide
1. Choose the shape according to the product installation space
Common infrared emission tubes are 3mm, 5mm, 8mm, 10mm, generally round head shape, flat head is a special product, the emission angle is large, please refer to point 3.
2. Choose wavelength according to product characteristics
Common wavelengths are 940nm, 850nm, 880nm, 890nm, 905nm, etc.
940nm is generally used for infrared remote control, photoelectric switch, low-power fill light, etc., completely invisible to the human eye.
850nm is generally used for infrared lighting, data transmission, optical communication, etc., and the human eye can see a slight red light.
880nm and 890nm are generally used in medical cosmetology, medical equipment, etc., human eyes can see a slight red light.
905nm is generally used for blood oxygen detection, etc. It is completely invisible to the human eye.
3. Choose the angle according to the distance requirement
Note that the angle of the infrared emitting tube is a half-power angle, not that there is no light outside the angle.
Under the same other conditions, the smaller the angle, the farther the transmission distance, and the larger the angle, the closer the transmission distance.
If you need a long transmission distance, please use a small angle; if the transmission range is large, please use a large angle.
The flat head is a special product with a large emission angle, but the distance will be relatively close, and the luminous intensity will be uneven
4. Choose chip size according to current usage and reliability
The internal chip of the infrared emitting tube has different sizes, from 6mil to 45mil, the commonly used ones are 8mil, 9mil, 10mil, 12mil 14mil.
16mil and above are high-power products
The larger the chip size, the larger the current allowed to work, and the higher the reliability under the same conditions of use.
The larger the chip size, the higher the price.
5. Choose the color according to the appearance requirements
Infrared emission tubes are generally transparent, but also have other colors, such as black, blue, red, yellow, etc.
Other colors have little effect on product performance, mainly to adapt to the appearance of the product.
